Megeve (NZ) Makes Winning Debut

Three-year-old Pencarrow filly Megeve (NZ) (Wandjina) began her career on the perfect note with a victory in Friday’s $10,000 TAB Spring Loaded Promotion 1200 at Avondale.

Trained by Peter and Dawn Williams, Megeve had prepared for Friday’s debut with three trials at the same venue. She finished fourth in an early educational trial back in February, then won a trial on September 12 and finished second on October 1.

Megeve was ridden in Friday’s race by Ashvin Goindasamy, who pushed her forward from her wide gate. She led after the first 100 metres, and she maintained that position all the way to the finish.

She showed a good turn of foot in the last 250 metres, racing away to win by three and a half lengths.

Megeve was bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and is raced by Sir Peter Vela.

Her dam is Vercors (NZ) (Catbird), who won four races including the Listed Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1600m) and placed in the Group 2 Travis Stakes (2000m). She is a half-sister to the Group 1 performer Hasselhoof (NZ) (Tavistock).

Vercors has a perfect record at stud, with all of her five named foals now winners. She produced a filly by Sweynesse last spring, then was served by Vadamos.
