Four out of Four for Pearl Of Alsace (NZ)
14 February 2023
Rising star Pencarrow mare Pearl Of Alsace(NZ) (Tavistock) extended her undefeated record to four out of four with another outstanding performance in Friday’s $30,000 AHD Production Animal Supplier Handicap (1400m) at Hastings.
Since making a winning debut at New Plymouth in November, the highly talented four-year-old has been more and more impressive with every subsequent start, stringing together back-to-back wins at Trentham in December and January before Friday’s stellar performance at Hastings.
Ridden by Ashvin Goindasamy, Pearl Of Alsace jumped well but was soon eased back to settle in seventh place heading down the back of the track.
She loomed ominously five off the rail coming around the home turn, and when Goindasamy pushed the button, Pearl Of Alsace quickened sharply to sprint past the leader with 100 metres remaining. Zeitaku (NZ) (Savabeel) flashed home out wide to provide a late scare, but Pearl Of Alsace had enough up her sleeve to hold him out by a neck.
Pearl Of Alsace is trained by Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray at Cambridge.
“Nice ride by Ashvin Goindasamy, he sure knew what he had underneath him,” Shaune Ritchie Racing said on Facebook.
With four starts for four wins, Pearl Of Alsace has now earned $71,090 in prize-money for her owner Sir Peter Vela. She was bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd.
Pearl Of Alsace is part of a perfect three-from-three record for her dam Irion (NZ) (Danroad), who herself won four races and placed in the Group Two Rich Hill Mile (1600m) and Group Three Cuddle Stakes (1600m).
Irion’s first foal Ipso Facto (NZ) (More Than Ready) was a winner last year, while two-year-old filly Zourion (NZ) (Zoustar) scored a super-impressive debut victory at Taupo on February 7.
Irion’s yearling filly by Super Seth was offered by Pencarrow Stud in Book 1 of Karaka 2023 last month, where she was bought by Shaune Ritchie Racing for $260,000.
