Les Crayeres (NZ) Completes Perfect Record for Blueblood Dam
14 December 2020
Pencarrow mare Les Crayeres (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) completed a perfect record for her dam Our Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel) with a dominant performance at Tauranga on Friday.
The blue-blooded Les Crayeres is the final foal out of Our Echezeaux, who has now had six winners from six foals to race, including three black-type winners.
Trained by Ken and Bev Kelso for owner-breeder Sir Peter Vela, Les Crayeres had run a fast-finishing fourth on debut in late September before struggling in rain-affected ground a couple of weeks later.
She returned to action in impressive style in Friday’s $10,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race (1400m), which also earned her a Level B Pearl Bonus of $11,500.
Ridden by Danielle Johnson, Les Crayeres raced in fourth spot before angling off the rail in the home straight to lodge her challenge. Producing a slick turn of foot she dashed to a clear lead, crossing the finish line three and a half lengths in front.
Friday’s maiden win came in the four-year-old’s third start and boosted her career earnings to $6,000, plus the additional $11,500 Pearl Series bonus.
By champion sire Redoute’s Choice, Les Crayeres comes from one of Pencarrow’s finest families.
Our Echezeaux is the dam of stakes winners Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), Pure Elegance (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) and Cote D’Or (NZ) (Makfi).
Our Echezeaux is a full-sister to Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel), who won the Group One Australasian Oaks (2000m) and is the dam of multiple Group One winner and top sire Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill), as well as multiple stakes winner and successful sire Burgundy (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).
Our Echezeaux is also a three-quarter-sister to Romanee Conti (NZ) (Sir Tristram), who was a high-class racehorse in her own right but is most famous as the dam of the champion Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
